Celebration
Last month was extremely noteworthy for this blog since on March 11th, Diamond Whiskey Blog celebrated its one-year birthday. The first year was incredible, and I’m so grateful that I embarked on this adventure a year ago to share my whiskey moments with you. I’m also grateful for everyone’s support; without you, I wouldn’t be here. I promise to continue this journey in order to provide you with further details about whiskies.

Johnnie Walker Blue Label
This special occasion requires the use of a special whiskey. We require something rare, one-of-a-kind, well-known, and at the top of the food chain. I have the perfect whisky for that, and its name is Blue Label. That’s correct, we’re going to try Johnnie Walker Blue Label Blended Scotch Whisky. This whisky was blended with one of the rarest whiskies found in Scotland, and the outcome was spectacular. The whisky has been aged in the cask for at least 12 years and is without a doubt the best in Johnnie Walker’s collection.

Decanting

As you can see from the photos, I decanted my Blue Label for a reason. If you want to preserve your valuable whiskies, decanting them into a crystal decanter eliminates the chance of oxygen entering through the cork and destroying your whiskey.
Color & Nose
When I poured this beautiful gold nectar into my glass, the richness of this whisky was immediately visible. Simply glancing at how silently the alcohol flows into the bottom of the glass reveals how gentle the whisky is. This scotch begs to be sipped, so exercise caution when near the bottle.
The aroma first reminded me of citrus sweets, like a bowl full of mandarin popsicles, and was sweet like a freshly made honeycomb by the bee colony. This was followed by some leather and oaky flavors, and a truly earthly flavor emerged. When nature opened up for me, I could see a beach in the distance because I began to notice some seaweed in the glass, and as I walked on the beach, it was time to fire up my cigar since my nose began to pick up on some warm tobacco smoke scents. Once the smoke had died down and the seaweed was sunbathing around me, it was time to relax and take in the sight. I must have been sitting on a rusted metal wreck since this was the aroma I detected from the scotch.

Tasting notes
The atmosphere was just right after the aromatherapy that the whisky provided, so now was the time to sample it. As I mentioned at the start of this tasting, you can see how smooth the whisky was when I poured it into the glass. I have to mention that it feels even smoother and gentler on your tongue than bunny paws. It wasn’t just smooth; it was extraordinarily sleek, and it had to be one of the smoothest whiskies I’d ever drunk. This sensation was mind-boggling, and after allowing it to pass down my throat, I could taste honey-covered leather. A fantastic combination, and because the flavors were so well displayed, it was just enough for your palate.
Finish
It was time to savor the magnificent finish that the Blue Label had to give. At first, I recall a high-quality citrus note that reminded me of freshly selected mandarins grabbed from a tree and placed in a bowl. It had a pleasant taste, but it was swiftly overpowered by oak. This rich and superb oak flavor was paired with a subtle smoke element that elevates the aftertaste to new heights. I was left with a lengthy quality smoke taste that transported me to a very pleasant and warm environment, and as the warmth began to fade, I couldn’t help but keep adding this fire to my mouth.

Pizza & Whisky
The question now is, do whiskey and pizza go together? I’ve brought in two pizzas to help me answer this question. The first one was a Bresaola pizza, and the second was a Four Cheese pizza. The Bresaola was topped with one ingredient that drew me in: organic lemon zests. I had a feeling this would be a fantastic companion for my Blue Label, and I was right. This pizza provided extra citrus flavors to my whisky, which is a fantastic combo. The pizza did not dominate the whisky, and the whisky did not overwhelm the pizza, making the perfect couple to brighten your whiskey evening. To be honest, I was just going to taste the Blue Label with one pizza, the Bresaola, but since it was Diamond Whisky Blog’s birthday, I wanted to make it more special, so I got another one. So, as the Four Chees pizza was delivered, I poured another round of this fantastic scotch for myself, took some water (always drink water while refilling your glass), and prepared to have my mind blown once more! I don’t recommend putting pizza and whisky in your mouth at the same time; the results aren’t great. The pairing of the Blue Label and the blue cheese on the pizza was phenomenal. Blue and blue produce the finest flavor profile in the world, and I’m serious, you have to try them and share them with your friends. I couldn’t stop thinking about this pizza and this scotch.

Aftermath
Wow! The Johnnie Walker Blue Label dragged me away to a world only found in fairytales. I’m delighted it helped me sit back and appreciate something magnificent crafted by wizards, and I have to give props to the excellent master blenders that Johnnie Walker employs. I can’t think of a better way to commemorate Diamond Whisky Blog’s first birthday. Thank you everybody for your continued support, and I’ll see you next time! Bye!
